February has been a significant and productive month for the Transition Commission, with important steps taken as we continue preparing for our Transition to 3P.

Key Highlights
  • 1 September endorsed as “3P Day” – the official launch date for the new structure.
  • A pathway to 3P Day, outlining the critical activities required in the lead‑up to the transition.
  • Further refinement of the Presbytery staffing model, including:
    • Part 1: Mission and Ministry functions (1st draft)
    • Part 2: Leadership and Support Services functions (1st draft)
  • Preparation for a series of staffing model workshops across the Synod.
  • Presbytery Chairs reached an in‑principle agreement on the framework for a Presbytery Resourcing Fund.
  • Presbytery Transition Leaders (PTLS) have attended meetings of all twelve Presbytery councils to share the vision and progress of the Transition and hear concerns and hopes for the 3P project
Focus for the Month Ahead

During the coming month, the Commission will concentrate on the following:

  • Communicating with Congregations to build understanding and support for 3P Day.
  • Facilitating staffing model workshops and gathering insights from participant.
  • Assessing the impact of the draft staffing model on:
    • Synod and Presbytery Education & Discipleship practices
    • Synod Mission resourcing and activities
  • Exploring governance implications for:
    • Presbytery Standing Committees
    • Pastoral Relations Committees
      in a 3P context.
  • Clarifying the Basic Requirements of a Presbytery under the new model, particularly in response to the Guiding Principles for transition.
  • Sharing the draft staffing model and workshop outcomes more broadly to invite feedback.
  • Obtaining independent specialist advice on:
    • The timing and nature of entity‑management and end of financial year tasks leading up to 1 September
    • Specific requirements for an employee consultation process (subject to finalisation of the staffing model)
