Matthew 22:34-40: Jesus is asked to name the greatest commandment, a question loaded with tension because different Jewish groups emphasised different laws. Instead of choosing one, Jesus goes deeper. Humans always commit themselves to something and become “slaves” to whatever they live for. True freedom is not the absence of restriction but being freed from sin to belong to God. God’s commandments express love and shape our heart. By loving God and neighbour, we live within God’s purpose and discover that divine restriction is actually the pathway into real freedom and life.
