Synod Meeting 2023 - UCA

Clipped from: https://www.nswact.uca.org.au/about-us/synod-meeting-2023/

The Synod meets about every 18 months to receive reports, discern proposals, and discuss matters that concern the general oversight, direction and life of the Uniting Church in NSW and the ACT.

The Synod meeting includes nominated representatives from all twelve Presbyteries and includes a Ministry Recognition Service, which honours ministers who, since the previous Synod meeting, have:

  • been ordained, retired or been received from other denominations since the preceding Synod meeting (2021).
  • celebrated 50, 60, 65 and 70 years since ordination or commissioning.

Synod 2023 will be held from September 15-17 at Katoomba Christian Convention Centre with the induction of Moderator Rev. Mata Hiliau Havea being held at St Stephen's Uniting Church at 197 Macquarie Street Sydney on Thursday 14 September.

Selected parts of the meeting, throughout the three days, will be livestreamed for members of the Church.

Our commitment to Future Directions

This September come and hear about the transformational work and mission of the people of God already well on the way at Synod 2023. In 2021 the Synod committed to Future Directions , at Synod 2023 we will discern how to move forward with those commitments together.

We will gather together as a Synod for the first time since 2019 in person – in a Covid safe environment -  to celebrate the achievements of the Synod and understand how the Future Directions commitments can shape how we think about God at work and our mission across Presbyteries and Congregations.

How is God calling us to disrupt the status quo?

How is God calling us to discard an entrenched way of thinking?

At Synod 2023 we will discover what Future Directions is calling us to do, and what decisions and actions are required for the future of the Uniting Church?

Let’s celebrate our impact so far, and continue to discern together how we will be more intentional in living out our Future Direction Commitments to:

  • Reimagining ministry in and with rural and regional areas,
  • Reaching and empowering people in the first third of their lives,
  • Walking Together with First Peoples
  • Acting and advocating for climate justice; and
  • Renewal of discipleship working with Presbyteries across the Synod to stimulate growth in and through our congregations.

The Secretariat team will be in contact with Presbytery representatives shortly with key dates and if you have any enquiries, please direct them to synodmeeting@nswact.uca.org.au
